MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – A high speed police chase from Millbrook came to an end in Montgomery when the suspect crashed his vehicle into an interstate exit barrier, according to Millbrook Police Chief PK Johnson.
The incident started just before noon when a Millbrook police officer tried to pull over a 2019 Dodge Charger in the area of Alabama Highway 143, just south of the Alabama River Parkway. That’s when Johnson says the driver, later identified as Nazheer F. Lewis, 23, of Montgomery, fled the scene.
At one point, the chief says Lewis actually pulled over near River Oaks Road. He then waited for the officer to get out of his patrol unit before speeding off toward Interstate 65 and heading south at speeds clocked at over 100 mph.
Lewis attempted to get off the interstate at the Edgemont Avenue exit, but he lost control after attempting to abruptly cross multiple lanes to the exit, Johnson said. The Dodge hit the exit barrier, but Lewis was able to get out and run into the wood line into an adjacent neighborhood…
