Fairfield man, former attorney pleads guilty to stealing $7.4 million

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) — A Fairfield resident and former bank general counsel pleaded guilty on Friday to offenses stemming from a decades-long embezzlement scheme, according to the Department of Justice.

According to statements made in court, from 2013 until Jan. 2022, James Blose, 56, defrauded his employers in multiple ways. In that time period, he was an attorney and held high-ranking positions at multiple different banks.

In some commercial loan transactions, Blose allegedly retained for himself portions of the closing costs, including legal fees. Sometimes he would retain portions of the sale proceeds during real estate transactions for himself and make false documents to cover up his crimes.

Through the scheme, Blose stole approximately $7.4 million from his employers. He is facing a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison…
