Missouri Gov. Mike Parson late Friday commuted the sentence of former Kansas City Police Detective Eric DeValkenaere, fulfilling his family’s requests for his release.
DeValkenaere, 46, who was being held in an undisclosed out-of-state prison, was released at 1:15 p.m. Friday, said Karen Pojmann, a spokeswoman for the Missouri Department of Corrections. Sentenced to six years, DeValkenaere spent almost 430 days in prison — slightly more than one year.
