Hillsboro revives Block 67 with new developer, prospect of Hillsboro Food Co-op

Yet another plan to develop Hillsboro’s long-vacant “Block 67” is shaping up — with the city setting its sights on new housing, commercial space and a grocery store to connect historic downtown with the medical district.

Washington-based Koz Development has emerged to take on Hillsboro’s long-standing catalytic mixed-use project, envisioning a full-block redevelopment with 333 middle-income units and a new partnership between Fresh Foods and the Hillsboro Food Co-op.

The property spanning Southeast Sixth and Seventh avenues has stood dormant since Hank’s Thriftway, a community staple where locals grabbed groceries for 80 years, closed its doors in 2015. The city purchased the site in December 2016 for $4.8 million — with plans to establish a public-private partnership to revitalize the downtown sphere…
