Legal-Ease: Same documents, same attorney but different estate plans?

With social media, it is easier now more than ever for people to compare themselves. People compare themselves to their family and friends all the time. People also tend to compare their legal work with other close friends and family.

I have had people call and say, “My brother and I own ground together. Why is his estate plan different?” Or in a meeting, someone will say, “My friend has a trust set up, shouldn’t I need a trust too?”

People love to compare themselves, even if they don’t realize they are doing it. This happens even when it comes to some of the most important and useful documents that attorneys prepare (such as wills, trusts, powers of attorney and living wills). These documents are more broadly called estate planning documents. And the powers of attorney and living wills are more specifically called advance directives…
