SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WMBD) — Some new laws going into effect on Jan. 1 will make it harder for thieves who steal catalytic converters and assist crime victims whose cars are stolen.
The new laws are among those introduced by the Office of the Secretary of State and were passed by the Illinois General Assembly and signed into law.
House Bill 4589 will require recyclable metal dealers to keep a record of the vehicle identification number (VIN) connected to catalytic converters.
