From the New York Times to the BBC to “Late Night with Stephen Colbert,” googly eyes on Bend roundabout art has attracted international attention. Now, it’s starting to show up on Bend-branded merchandise.
“I heard about it on the news first before I saw it in person, and it was some friends from other parts of the country sending it to me, and I thought it was just kind of a funny, silly thing, too,” said Bend local Megan Tuttle. “That’s why Bend is getting famous right now.”
“I get notifications from the New York Times and I saw that it said Bend, Oregon on it. I was kind of like, ‘that’s crazy,’ because it was never in like national news,” Bend High graduate and college student Sierra Goode said. “Then I clicked on it and I was surprised that it was about. I was worried it was like something bad. But then I saw that it was about like googly eyes being put out on the roundabouts and I thought that was kind of funny.”…
