Alec Baldwin Charges Dropped in ‘Rust’ Shooting Case

Actor Alec Baldwin will not face charges in the 2021 shooting death of “Rust” cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. The special prosecutor dropped an appeal due to lack of support from the New Mexico district attorney’s office.

The prosecution’s case against Baldwin collapsed in July when it withheld potentially relevant evidence. The state cited obstacles that compromised its ability to prosecute effectively.

Baldwin’s attorneys hailed the decision as a vindication, stating that he committed no crime. Baldwin shared a link to the news article on social media but has not commented publicly.

Hutchins’ family settled a wrongful death lawsuit with Baldwin in October 2022. The film’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in March and sentenced to 18 months in prison.
