STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The latest monthly outlook by the National Weather Service’s Climate Prediction Center reveals that January is forecast to feature above-average temperatures.
This outlook, released on Dec. 19, shows the odds are that temperatures in New York will be “leaning above” the average this month. The entirety of the state, from Staten Island to the Canadian border, is slated with a 33-40% probability of seeing warmer temperatures than usual.
Typically, the mean average temperature for January in the Central Park area of New York City is about 33.7 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Central Park data from 1991 through 2020.
