WATCH: Hundreds of Surfing Santas take over Florida beach

COCOA BEACH, Fla. (WFLA) — Thousands of spectators braved chilly weather on Tuesday to take part in a beloved Florida holiday tradition.

Hundreds of surfers donned their most festive gear to hit the beach for this year’s Surfing Santas.

What began as a family tradition has exploded into a major event, with over 15,000 people expected to attend each year to watch 600 or so surfers hit the waves.

“Back in 2009, I went surfing as Santa,” event organizer George Trosset told NBC affiliate WESH . “Some friends said they want to join me the following year and it’s just kind of exploded and my heart is full. There is so many happy people here there’s so many happy surfers. Everybody here is in a good mood.”…
