UI denies suspended fraternity’s appeal following hazing allegations

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa has denied an appeal from the Alpha Delta Phi fraternity after placing its chapter on interim suspension in November due to allegations of hazing, according to a report from The Gazette.

The suspension followed a reported Nov. 15 incident in which police responded to a fire alarm at the house on 703 N. Dubuque St. They discovered 56 pledges in the fraternity’s basement, blindfolded with food thrown on them, according to an arrest report.

The fraternity had argued that the incident was the result of two individuals acting independently and had taken steps, including revoking their memberships, to address the issue.
