Keeping up a special mother-daughter tradition, Solana Beach’s Carmen Isaacs and her daughter Olivia conducted their sixth annual holiday fundraiser in their community, this year giving back to animals in need at the Rancho Coastal Humane Society.
Carmen started the mother-daughter effort when Olivia was just seven years old—she is now a 13-year-old eighth grader at Earl Warren Middle School. They missed last year due to mother-daughter sickness but in past years they have held clothing drives, food drives and fundraising drives to support organizations such as Gently Hugged, Soles4Soles, Feeding San Diego and Rancho Coastal Humane Society in Encinitas.
“I picked Rancho Coastal Humane Society because I love animals and they need all the help they can get because people should not treat animals poorly,” said Olivia. “I told my friends and neighbors that they’re worth supporting because some animals cannot find a forever home so let’s give them things to make them feel like they are at home.”
Mom and daughter walked the neighborhood and spoke to over 80 neighbors about Rancho Coastal. This year they also strengthened their efforts by teaming up with Solana Beach businesses such as Epic Cycles, Rancho Santa Fe Veterinary Hospital, Neiki Solana Beach, Fusion Dance Solana Beach and Olivia’s school, Earl Warren.
With their successful fundraiser they collected 11 dog beds, two large bags of dog food, two cat stands, 52 assorted dog and cat treats, a box of puppy pads, 41 towels, 89 assorted toys, two nail clippers, four bowls, 19 outfits, 32 blankets, 49 sheets and one recovery jacket…
