Attleboro mayor blames lack of oversight, communication for city’s water issues

ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WJAR) — A lack of oversight and communication– that’s what Attleboro’s Mayor Cathleen DeSimone is blaming for millions of gallons of water that literally went down the drain.

Monday afternoon, the mayor released a three-page statement to the community explaining all of the issues that the water department has been facing since the beginning of the summer.

The mayor explained in the statement that last June, a routine transfer from the Manchester Reservoir– the city’s largest source– to Orr’s Pond, another storage location, went wrong.

A valve was opened incorrectly, allowing too much water out of the reservoir, dropping it seven feet in seven weeks.
