Week-long Kwanzaa festivities unite Port Arthur community with cultural principles

PORT ARTHUR — The Port Arthur Public Library will host a Kwanzaa celebration on December 27, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., focusing on the principle of Kujichagulia, which means “self-determination” in Swahili.

This event is part of a week-long series of Kwanzaa celebrations in the area, each day emphasizing a different principle. The festivities will begin on December 26 with a focus on “Unity” and will continue through December 31, concluding with “Faith” on New Year’s Day.

The celebration on December 28 will take place at the Texas Artist Museum at 12:30 p.m., highlighting “Collective Work.” On December 29, families are encouraged to engage in “Cooperative Economics.”…
