LAKOTA, Ohio (WKRC) – A former Lakota school teacher filed a lawsuit against the Lakota Local School District regarding an alleged wrongful termination prompted by her supposedly falsely using sick days.
Eileen Washburn opened a lawsuit against the Lakota Local School District after she was fired from Lakota East High School for alleged “fraudulent use of sick leave.”
According to Washburn’s complaint, the school board asked to meet with her regarding her alleged misuse of sick time. She claimed she provided the board with a doctors’ note from her primary care physician that explained she needed to miss work on Feb. 8 and Feb. 9 due to side effects from resuming a medication.
The board allegedly claimed that Washburn was lying and that she had actually used the time to go to Nashville with her son to see a concert. Executive Director of Human Resources Rob Kramer allegedly said “Ms. Washburn was a liar, that her doctor was unethical, and that he was moving for her termination.”
According to a referee’s fact-finding report commissioned by the school board, Washburn told colleagues “she was taking her son to a concert in Nashville, Tennessee” because her husband was unable to. The referee also claimed that text messages sent by Washburn from the Feb. 8 and Feb. 9 did not indicate that the teacher was feeling ill…
