WEST SALEM — Northwestern and Hillsdale, two programs at different stages of the basketball cycle. The Falcons have veterans, are looking to contend in the Wayne County Athletic League and the Huskies, they are young, learning and trying to get better each day.
On Friday night, it was a young Northwestern team that had Hillsdale on the ropes early, before the Falcons rose up and quelled the upset hopes. Spearheaded by a 6-0 run in the last 76 seconds of the second quarter. Hillsdale erased a 27-26 deficit at the 1:16 mark in the second quarter with buckets from Brady Krichbaum, Lowen Ferguson and Troy Bennett to carry a 32-27 advantage into the break, eventually earning a 71-43 win.
“The big difference was just our effort to try and turn them over and create chaos,” said Falcons coach Ben Ferguson. “We figured if we are going to have a tough time making shots, the more chaos we can create and the more trips on fastbreaks that we could get, that would be our best plan. At that moment it turned out it was.”…
