Southern States Brace for Major Winter Storm Bringing Snow, Freezing Rain, and Sleet

Southern U.S. – Southern states are preparing for a significant winter storm expected to impact the region Thursday through Friday.

The National Weather Service forecasts heavy snow, sleet, and freezing rain stretching from the Southern Plains to the Tennessee Valley. Oklahoma, Texas, and Arkansas could see snow accumulations of up to 7 inches, while areas in Tennessee and Mississippi are expected to receive between 2 to 5 inches. Ice accumulation and freezing rain may exacerbate travel conditions, especially across the Mid-South.

According to the NOAA Weather Prediction Center, the heaviest snow will occur from the Red River Valley to eastern Arkansas. Freezing rain is likely to impact regions further south, creating hazardous road conditions and the potential for power outages.
