Portland florist forced to close due to fumes from nearby fire

PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – Having a truck full of plants and a store empty and closed isn’t how the owner of Botanica Floral and Home Josef Reiter envisioned his store four years after moving into this location. However, a fire Monday morning has left him with no choice. “We can’t be here. This is not safe for us, our customers, and I just didn’t want my people dealing with this,” said Reiter.

According to Portland Fire, a porta-potty caught on fire spreading smoke and heat through a broken window. No one was injured. “Someone off the street came in and used it probably doing something you shouldn’t be doing, maybe an accident happened, and it caught on fire then,” said Damien Breadon, Assistant Manager of Kearney Plaza, where the fire broke out.

According to Breadon, the fire damaged the building, and the porta-potty melted. “It was all melted plastic, had to get that all cleaned up and removed, broken glass, swept up, removed,” said Breadon. “Some of our tenants were outside to be safe. I’m glad it got controlled very quickly so it couldn’t spread or anything, but it was quite a scene.”…
