An elite army soldier targeted a Tesla Cybertruck with explosives outside the Trump International Hotel in Vegas, using the generative AI, including ChatGPT, as part of his planning, according to Las Vegas police on Tuesday.
At a news briefing, it was revealed by law enforcement that 37-year-old Matthew Livelsberger – who left a chilling suicide note – engaged with ChatGPT for insights on explosive materials, bullet velocities, and fireworks legality in Arizona, as reported by The Associated Press.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Sheriff Kevin McMahill described the AI’s involvement as a “game-changer” and mentioned the sharing of intel across agencies. “This is the first incident that I’m aware of on U.S. soil where ChatGPT is utilized to help an individual build a particular device,” he expressed, signalling deep concern.
