Winner’s sportsbook burglary suspect apprehended by Waterbury police

WATERBURY, Conn. — The Waterbury Police Department has arrested a suspect in connection to the burglary that was reported last week at the Winner’s sportsbook location on Thomaston Avenue.

Aric McCray, 53, of New Haven, has been arrested and charged with third-degree burglary, sixth-degree larceny and third-degree criminal mischief, as was announced Wednesday. Waterbury police say he has a history of burglary arrests and convictions and currently has six pending cases in New Haven.

Around 4:45 a.m. on Jan. 3, Waterbury police responded to Winner’s for a reported alarm and confirmed upon arrival that a burglary took place. The suspect, later identified by Waterbury police as McCray, used a rock to break the store’s glass and gain entry. He fled the scene on foot before police arrived, stealing non-activated lottery tickets…
