SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The price for eggs has spiked once again, reaching a record of nearly $9 for a dozen eggs in certain parts of the U.S.
This has an impact on not only grocery stores, but local restaurants in the area as well. The owner of Nadim’s Downtown Mediterranean Grill Nadim Kashouh says many businesses are getting hit hard with this increase in prices.
Shelter arrest raises concerns statewide
“We hope it is going to be short term and not long term because then we have to adjust and figure out what we are going to do with the prices of not only eggs but poultry as well,” Kashouh said. “Everything is going up and it’s going to affect us.”
Reports from the USDA show that the average cost for a dozen eggs has gone up more than 60% over the last year. The reason behind the spike in prices is the avian flu outbreaks in poultry items.
