NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Northampton City Council is currently working on a bill that could ban fossil fuels for certain projects.
The measure to ban the use of fossil fuels in all new buildings and projects in Northampton is now at the City Council level. Dr. Ben Weil, the director of Climate Action and Project Administration for the city of Northampton said there are many levels for energy restrictions in the state.

“This ban is an add-on to the existing specific “stretch” code that the city follows, all of this, hoping to reach net zero energy in the city,” Weil said.
Weil said the council is working on revisions. City counselors are working on exemptions for all the special cases, especially for existing buildings, to make the ordinance workable and fair for builders in Northampton…
