Dover officer receives Red Cross award for lifesaving response

DOVER – The American Red Cross this week honored a Dover Police Officer for saving a man’s life in August.

Local Red Cross Director Kim Kroh presented Patrolman Ryan Porter with the American Red Cross Lifesaving Award for Professional Responders for his actions on Aug. 19 when he found Rick Schreiber unresponsive at his West Third Street home. She says Porter performed CPR for an “exhausting” amount of time as firefighters attempted to revive Schreiber with an AED.

The second shock from the AED was successful, and Schreiber survived. He was in the packed Council chambers Monday evening along with Porter’s family and fellow officers…
