Maryland faces $3B deficit as leaders tackle budget challenges in Annapolis

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (7News) — Maryland state senators and delegates always celebrated their return to Annapolis, but this year, there is a decidedly dark mood around the state house. Simply put, they have a money problem. They’ve been spending more money than they have and there is a $3 billion deficit.

For the leaders of Maryland’s biggest counties, the deficit means reduced expectations. Acting Prince George’s County Executive Tara Jackson said she has two goals.

“One is to bring resources home to Prince George’s County and two; to zealously advocate for our residents and our needs during a budget cycle which is extremely challenging,” Jackson said…
