HCSO: Suspect with assault rifle injures two people in drive-by shooting near where school bus was unloading

HOUSTON — Two people were wounded in a drive-by shooting in east Harris County Wednesday. It happened near where kids were getting off a school bus, according to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.

The shooting happened on West Houston Street in the Highlands area. Sheriff Gonzalez said a person with an assault rifle opened fire, hitting a man in a vehicle. One bullet penetrated a home, hitting a woman who was standing in the front doorway. There were also two kids in the home, ages 5 and 7, but they weren’t hurt.

Life Flight responded and transported both the man and the woman. The man is reported to be in critical condition. At this point, we don’t know the woman’s condition…
