ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — Rock Island Police tell News 8 that no weapons have been found this school year since weapon detectors were installed over the summer at Rock Island High School and Edison and Washington junior highs.
The devices alert when they sense large metal objects, such as a gun or a knife, when students walk through them. When the system alerts, it highlights an area in red on the screen to show staff where to search the student.
