LENEXA, Kan — Two major truck stops — Walcott’s Iowa 80, known as “the world’s largest truck stop,” and Joplin 44 — have agreed to pay a combined $390,784 to settle allegations of violating the federal Clean Water Act, according to a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) news release.
The EPA’s investigation found that the facilities failed to comply with regulations designed to protect waterways from petroleum discharges. The alleged violations were uncovered during inspections conducted in 2023.
