THORNTON TOWNSHIP, Ill. (January 8, 2025) – If the Thornton Township board doesn’t approve and file its tax levy ordinance by January 31, it risks going seven months with no new tax revenue, according to a spokesman at the Cook County Clerk’s office.
The board has a slight reprieve, but missing the new deadline would mean the township will not receive tax revenue from residents until at least August 1, 2025, after the collection of bills for the second installment of the 2024 tax year.
Without tax revenue, the township would have to rely on the balances already in its three major budget funds to finance services through more than half a year…
