Jan. 9, 1925: The editor of a Clayton, New Mexico paper at least has the honesty to come out under his own name and say he believes the ban on child labor in the southwest is not wise, arguing that minors may be used without hurting them to work in the beet fields and other outdoor employment.

The general propaganda against the amendment — which as we understand it merely permits laws against child labor — is not so aboveboard. It comes from invisible sources generally believed to be eastern manufacturers. It is not a particularly admirable enterprise, that of agitating for the toil of children; it is not strange that it covers its tracks…
