Arizona death row inmate’s request to be executed on Valentine’s Day rejected

An Arizona inmate won’t get his wish to be executed on Valentine’s Day after a court rejected his application.

The Arizona Supreme Court rejected 53-year-old Aaron Gunches request to forgo any more legal maneuvering and finally put him to death after he pleaded guilty to the 2002 murder and kidnapping charges of Ted Price, his girlfriend’s ex-husband.

Gunches kidnapped and shot Price multiple times in a desert area off the Beeline Highway. On Wednesday, the high court granted Attorney General Kris Mayes’ request for a briefing schedule for the state’s motion for a warrant of execution.

The schedule provides a timetable for all parties to brief the court on whether or not it should grant the warrant, the Arizona Republic reported . The justices said they want to hear arguments from all sides, including Attorney General Mayes, who wants Gunches executed- but not on his schedule…
