Shelters expanding capacity to help people stay warm during the wintry weather

CHARLOTTE, NC – In response to the extreme weather forecasted, extreme weather protocols will activate Friday, Jan. 10, through Sunday, Jan. 12, which include additional capacity at area homeless shelters.

Mecklenburg County, the City of Charlotte, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Emergency Management Office (CMEMO), Roof Above, the Salvation Army Center of Hope, Hearts for the Invisible, and Block Love Charlotte are working together to support the needs of people experiencing homelessness during this extreme weather event. The partners will continue to monitor weather conditions throughout the period.

Roof Above’s Day Services Center, located at 945 N. College St., will operate under normal hours of operation: 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. throughout this event…
