Winter weather advisory active Friday and Saturday with more snow on the way

Grand Rapids, Mich. (WOOD) — A fresh round of accumulating snow is on track for West Michigan as the weekend approaches.

A winter weather advisory is in effect for Muskegon, Ottawa, Allegan, Van Buren and Kalamazoo counties from 8 a.m. Friday through 4 a.m. Saturday, the forecast calling for 2 to 5 inches of new snow.

Snow will start near sunrise and fall consistently throughout the day Friday. It should become more scattered Friday night into Saturday. A few bands of lake-effect snow may set up in the wake of the system on Saturday morning, but by Saturday afternoon, it’s likely that the snow will end completely.

Snow totals are going to range between 2 and 4 inches for most communities. Farther north approaching US-10 near Big Rapids and Mount Pleasant, amounts will taper off with about 1 to 3 inches. Near the lakeshore and stretching along I-94 toward Kalamazoo is where there’s the greatest likelihood at snow amounts maxing out near 5 inches.

Grand Rapids is in line for about 2 to 3 inches of snow from this next disturbance. Expect some travel impacts to occur as the snow is coming down.

More snow is on the way for early next week and an active pattern continues.
