Bridgeport man gets 15 months in prison for Derby hit-run crash that killed co-worker

DERBY — A Bridgeport man was sentenced Wednesday to serve 15 months in prison for fleeing the scene of a 2022 Derby crash that killed one of his co-workers at the Division Street McDonald’s.

Antonio Pereira, 21, had pleaded guilty in October to evading responsibility in a fatal crash before Judge Stephanie Damiani. He was behind the wheel of an Infiniti sedan Dec. 15, 2022, on his way to work at the restaurant as 61-year-old John Jepson, who also worked there, had just clocked out and was crossing the street about 500 feet away when Pereiera’s vehicle hit him.

Pereira stopped briefly but then left the scene, according to an arrest warrant affidavit. Jepson was taken to the hospital in critical condition and died a week later…
