NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Lawmakers are set to reconvene in Nashville on Jan. 14 for the annual months-long process of examining proposals from colleagues and determining which bills would become law.
This year’s legislative session comes after elections that failed to change the Tennessee legislature’s partisan leaning, retaining the state’s Republican supermajority. With such a supermajority, Republican lawmakers can pass proposals exclusively with the support of their colleagues — never having to court a single Democratic vote for their interests.
