Surfside Beach breaks ground on second phase of drainage project

SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A project to improve drainage in the Surfside Beach area is entering its second phase.

The South Carolina Office of Resiliency announced Thursday that the town will break ground on work involving the Upper Myrtle and Magnolia basins this month.

The project is funded by $1.17 million from the American Rescue Plan Act and will involve installing drainage pipes and catch basins on 2nd, 11th, and 14th Avenues North.

“Right now, runoff is not channeled through any stormwater system in these basins,” said Pam Kendrick, SCOR Infrastructure Project Manager. “This project will help remove stormwater runoff from roadways and into a piped system where the water can infiltrate into the soil.”…
