Heavy rain expected to begin Thursday afternoon

HOUSTON ( KIAH ) — Heavy rainfall and possible flooding of the roads are possible Thursday afternoon to midnight Friday morning as a winter storm rumbles through the southeast Texas area.

CW39 chief meteorologist Jonathan Novack said that while some scattered rain will be around some parts of the area on Thursday morning, the heaviest rain will begin later in the afternoon — around 6 p.m. — and last until midnight.

There is a slight possibility that the rain will cause some minor flash flooding in the area, especially in areas near the coast.

The National Weather Service said that two to three inches of rain is expected to drench southeast Texas on Thursday. But for those in the northern areas of southeast Texas, there is a chance of freezing rain, but not a big chance of that…
