Pets from Los Angeles to be moved to Salt Lake City shelter amidst devastating fires

SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) — Best Friends Animal Society is transferring pets from the Los Angeles area to Salt Lake City amidst the ongoing wildfires that have led to several deaths and mass evacuations.

The Salt Lake City Best Friends center is set to receive 60 cats and 14 dogs from its sanctuary in Kanab on Friday, Jan. 10. The nonprofit said many of these animals are being transferred from the Best Friends Pet Adoption Center and another local shelter in Los Angeles to make room for pets seeking shelter from the fires.

On Wednesday, 17 pets were transferred to the Kanab sanctuary from Pasadena Humane, a shelter in Los Angeles County, to make space for the sudden influx of pets in need of shelter. Best Friends said families evacuating the area have turned to Pasadena Humane to board their pets during this crisis.

“Best Friends taking in these pets creates more space for Pasadena-area residents to keep their pets safe,” the nonprofit said…
