Weather Extra: Of fire and ice/snow

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -Tonight’s weather extra modifies the notion of how weather patterns across our country affect different areas in different ways. What is a world of snow and ice (a cryosphere) in the Appalachians, turns into an inferno in Southern California.

A new winter storm is delivering heavy snow, sleet, and freezing rain in the so-called sun belt of America. Towns like Dallas, Memphis, Nashville, Atlanta, and Charlotte, among others, are under the gun from this latest southern storm. Our region will be on the northern fringe of the heaviest snow so our accumulations will be muted compared to those southern towns.

Tonight skies will clear low 5-10 for most. Friday skies cloud up with afternoon and nighttime snow. High 32. Low 25. Accumulations will range from 2″-3″ for most, with 4″ in many Coalfield and mountain communities…
