AUSTIN – Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed a lawsuit against TikTok accusing the company of misleadingly advertising its app as safe for minors despite frequently exposing children to inappropriate and explicit content.
“TikTok actively worked to deceive parents and lure children onto their app despite the presence of an overwhelming amount of profane and illicit material,” said Paxton. “Companies may not jeopardize the health and wellbeing of Texas children by blatantly lying about the products they provide.”
Paxton claims TikTok misrepresented its safety practices and concealed the extent of harmful material on the platform. He accuses TikTok of downplaying the frequency and severity of graphic content — including videos featuring drugs, nudity, alcohol, and profanity — to deceive parents and maintain its age rating on app stores.
