Erie School District’s Board of Education approved the annual tax levy rate of 2.8720, the same as last year, at their meeting on Monday, December 16th. The amount to be collected in fiscal year 2026 will be $13,412,719.
The meeting opened with a Tax in Taxation levy hearing and a presentation by Superintendent Chuck Milem. Since the proposed levy rate was 5% more than last year’s extension (the final amount received) the district was required to hold a hearing and post a public notice in the newspaper to be legally compliant.
Milem made clear that the tax levy amount is based on the district’s new 7-year property tax agreement with Constellation nuclear plant in Cordova (formerly Exelon) and the public hearing is being held solely due to the new assessed valuation of Constellation. “The tax rate is not increasing at all,” he said, adding that rate doesn’t tell the full story. “It looks bad in the newspaper, but we can’t change the language there.”…
