Phoenix protester faces potential murder charges in deadly shooting

PHOENIX — The evidence of a highly publicized shooting on July 4, 2024, is now in the hands of the Arizona Attorney General’s Office. 51-year-old Paul Franco was shot and killed by a pro-Palestinian protester that evening after an argument between Franco, his girlfriend, and the protesters turned violent.

12News has learned that Phoenix Police are recommending charges of second-degree murder and discharging a firearm within city limits for the protester. Due to this person not currently facing any criminal charges, 12News is not naming the suspect.

Police detectives had been evaluating the evidence in the case for multiple months. Early on in their investigation, they said the protester shot and killed Franco out of self-defense. They now believe there is probable cause to charge the protester…
