Accomplice gets prison after murder plea

A Wilson man was sentenced to an active prison term after pleading guilty to murder Friday morning in connection with the 2022 shooting death of a man on Goldsboro Street.

Jaquan Deshaun Barnes, 24, made an Alford plea of guilty to second-degree murder in the 2022 shooting death of 36-year-old Maurice Ruffin.

Resident Superior Court Judge L. Lamont Wiggins sentenced Barnes to a minimum of 157 months and a maximum of 201 months in state prison, which equates to a minimum of 13 years and one month and a maximum of 16 years and nine months.
