Man leads Polk deputies on high-speed chase in stolen car that ends in serious crash

LAKELAND, Fla. — Two people were significantly injured after a man crashed into an SUV while allegedly trying to drive away from police in a stolen car.

A Florida Highway Patrol trooper was driving at 2:49 p.m. in Polk County and saw a black Camaro speeding on Memorial Boulevard. The trooper said the car matched the description of one that recently took off from Auburndale Police and was known for swapping the plates with multiple Florida and Georgia plates.

The trooper attempted to pull the driver, later identified as 22-year-old Jaaziel Calero Nuez, over but he sped off. Three troopers followed him and as the Camaro approached an intersection, the driver ran a red light and crashed into an SUV and Sedan, ending the chase…
