Moms for Liberty’s court win redefines public comment

SARASOTA — Three months after a lawsuit launched by a Moms for Liberty branch against a neighboring school district succeeded, local officials are setting up precautions to avoid the same fate.

Sarasota County School Board discussed an update to the public speaking policy, specifically on the restrictions of the First Amendment in meetings.

Chris Parenteau, government affairs supervisor, said the standing policy needed changes “made out of necessity” after Brevard Public Schools lost to a court appeal over claims of biased censorship by its Board members…
