CHICO, Calif. — The WellCat Counseling Center at Chico State is extending support to students impacted by the devastating fires raging in Los Angeles County.
Andrew Staples, Chico State’s Public Relations Manager, told KRCR that 20% of Wildcats come from the Southern California region, with 1,044 students specifically from L.A. County.
Despite the Northstate’s familiarity with catastrophic wildfires, the university expressed that it is still heartbreaking to see the destruction, displacement, and loss of the Los Angeles community.
Students have also traveled to Los Angeles to visit family during the winter break, the university is offering guidance to those affected.
“It’s a sad situation and our hearts and thoughts are with everyone down in Southern California. The university and our faculty, staff are here to support students and we want them to do well. We will be flexible, we want our students to prioritize their health and safety, their own wellbeing and that of their families first, and then worry about getting back to Chico State and getting the semester started second,” Staples said…
