AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – FIRST ALERT THROUGH TONIGHT as an area of low pressure tracks through Georgia and the Carolinas bringing a wintry mix for areas near and north of I-20. A FIRST ALERT has been issued to give proper preparedness for potential minor to moderate winter impacts. Winter Storm Warnings are in effect for the central and northern CSRA through 7 AM Saturday. POWER OUTAGES AND DANGEROUS ROADS CONTINUE TO BE POSSIBLE TONIGHT THROUGH 8 AM SATURDAY.

We have issued a FIRST ALERT for central and northern counties this morning through early Saturday morning. An area of low pressure will track through the Southeast during this timeframe bringing precipitation and temperatures near freezing. Sleet and freezing rain will be the main precipitation the rest of the today through midnight. DANGEROUS ROADS AND UTILITY DISRUPTIONS EXPECTED – STAY OFF THE ROADS. All precipitation should be east of the CSRA by 1 AM Saturday. Temperatures will be in the mid to low 30s through this event, so 1-2° can make a huge difference. If temperatures are freezing or below for your area during the event then expect hazardous travel conditions and STAY OFF THE ROADS – also understand just because it’s not freezing at your house, doesn’t mean it’s not freezing where you are heading, so it’s also a good idea to STAY OFF THE ROADS. If we can avoid road travel during this event, then everyone should be okay. Freezing rain totals could could to 0.30″ in the northern CSRA and 0.25″ in the central CSRA. Snow totals got up to near an inch this morning in a few spots, but northern counties could see a an additional dusting to 1″. Sleet accumulations could get to 0.25-0.75″…
