Sonoma Botanical Garden presents bonsai show
The contemplative beauty of bonsai returns to Sonoma Botanical Garden this winter with an indoor exhibit featuring works by artisans with the Redwood Empire Bonsai Society.
“The Bonsai Show: Wood and Stone,” opening this weekend and running through March 30, will also feature a display of suiseki viewing stones, Suiseki is the Japanese art of stone appreciation. Small, naturally occurring water stones shaped by time and the elements, are placed on delicate wooden stands or daiza, frequently evoking mountains, waterfalls, and other natural scenes.
They are appreciated for their intrinsic beauty and the feelings they inspire. The stones in the new exhibit are from the collection of Jerry Braswell, a California woodworker who specializes in crafting bonsai and suiseki stands…
