Kohl’s to close five Bay Area stores, lay off hundreds statewide

Kohl’s announced Thursday that it plans to close five stores across the Bay Area by April, as part of a broader strategy to streamline its operations and close 27 “underperforming” locations nationwide.

The affected Bay Area outlets include stores in Fremont, Mountain View, Napa, Pleasanton and San Rafael.

The announcement follows closely behind Macy’s, which just revealed that it would close two of its own Bay Area locations, adding to the growing list of store shutdowns in a region that has seen significant shifts in consumer shopping habits…
