LIVERPOOL, N.Y (WSYR) — When Doug North, a Marcellus native, hears calls for help, he feels the need to rush to action. The American Red Cross volunteer knows the trip to Los Angeles will not be an easy one, but he said he signed up to assist without hesitation.

“My function out there will be running a disaster warehouse…where we keep the cots and the water and the blankets and all that kind of stuff for the shelters,” North said.
North said he quickly understood that an emergency of this magnitude out west was going to require a nationwide response.
“I like to help the community as much as I can,” he said. “There’s going to be a big need for volunteers out on this one…this is going to be a large event that’s going to last several months…if not a year.”…
