CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The state Attorney General’s Office announced Friday a settlement has been reached with a Delaware company that wrongly billed West Virginia’s Medicaid program for at-home COVID-19 test kits.
State Attorney General Patrick Morrisey said test kits from Tiero were not eligible for reimbursement because the company was not enrolled as Medicaid provider at the time.
The company used a billing code that is for antigen testing services, according to Morrisey.
“Healthcare providers need to know they must use the proper billing codes that accurately reflect the services they render, and only bill for services that are medically necessary,” Morrisey said. “Moreover, any healthcare provider that wants to do business with the state Medicaid program and its managed care organizations must be properly enrolled to do so.”…
